2. General information
This privacy notice explains how personal data is processed when you visit this website, contact me or use my translation services. Applicable Swiss data protection law, particularly the Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), applies, as does the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable.
3. Hosting and server logs
This website is hosted by Host Europe GmbH. Technical access data may be processed in server logs, including IP addresses, access times, requested files, HTTP status codes, browser and operating-system information and referring URLs. This serves website delivery and security as well as the identification and resolution of technical issues. Retention depends on the hosting settings actually in use and the provider’s terms; I cannot currently confirm a specific period.
4. Webalizer and AWStats
The hosting package provides Webalizer and AWStats. Where used, these tools may analyse server access data to produce statistics about page views, visit frequency, browsers and referring websites. These statistics help assess website usage and technical performance. Retention of the underlying log data depends on the hosting settings.
5. External services and social media
This website may contain links to external websites and professional profiles. Clicking such a link takes you to a third-party website governed by its own privacy information. Earlier embedded social-media features and other external content have been removed from the revised homepages.
6. Contact by email or telephone
If you contact me by email or telephone, I process the contact details, messages and any attachments you provide to respond to enquiries and prepare or carry out translation assignments. For business email I use a Microsoft 365 mailbox provided through Host Europe. Host Europe, Microsoft and service providers engaged by them may process personal data, including message contents and technical transmission data. Host Europe cannot give a binding confirmation of the precise location where email data is stored, nor can it guarantee that processing takes place exclusively in Switzerland or the European Economic Area. Processing in other countries is therefore possible.
Information is retained as necessary for these purposes and applicable legal retention requirements. Ordinary email may entail security risks; an appropriate transmission method can be arranged in advance for particularly confidential documents.
7. Translation assignments and confidential information
In the course of translation assignments, I may process contact, contract and billing details and personal data contained in documents submitted for translation. Processing is necessary to prepare, perform and invoice assignments and comply with legal duties. Confidential information is handled in accordance with contractual commitments. Disclosure occurs only where necessary, agreed or legally required. Additional security and confidentiality rules may apply to institutional clients.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
The static homepages do not require first-party analytics or advertising cookies for their basic display and navigation. Depending on the page accessed and the technical functions in use, cookies or similar technologies may be used. This notice will be updated if further relevant functions are identified during technical review.
9. Disclosure and international transfers
Personal data is not sold. Disclosure may be necessary for hosting, business correspondence, contract performance or legal obligations. Host Europe, Microsoft 365 and their potential subprocessors may process personal data outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area. Host Europe has confirmed an effective data processing agreement covering both the web hosting service and the Microsoft 365 email mailbox supplied through Host Europe. Processing by Microsoft and other service providers involved is additionally governed by the applicable contractual and data protection terms. Host Europe has not provided binding confirmation of all specific storage or processing countries. Transfers to countries without an adequate level of data protection require appropriate safeguards where mandated by applicable law. Confirmation of the data processing agreement does not, by itself, establish which safeguards apply to every potential international transfer.
10. Data security
I use appropriate technical and organisational safeguards against unauthorised access, loss, misuse and unlawful disclosure, including access controls and business-data backups.
11. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of and, where appropriate, deletion of your personal data. Further rights may apply under the GDPR where relevant. Please contact me using the email address above; verification of identity may be required. In Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) is the federal supervisory authority.
12. External links
Third-party website operators are responsible for their own data processing. Please consult their privacy notices.
13. Amendments
This notice may be updated if the website, services or legal requirements change. The version published here applies.
